As Monterey County's 5th District Supervisor, Dave Potter has taken a leadership role in:
Passing A General Plan For Monterey County. After more than ten years of work, Monterey County passed a General Plan that strikes the necessary balance between preserving our environmental resources and addressing the needs of our growing community.
Highway One climbing lane. Dave worked collaboratively with the community and various state and county agencies to deliver a project that resulted in an immediate reduction of traffic congestion. He is currently working on stage two of the climbing lane from Rio Road to Carmel Valley Road, further improving traffic circulation.
Improve traffic flow and safety in
Preserve and protect our beautiful coastline. In his 12 years of service on the California Coastal Commission - the longest serving government appointee to the Commission - Dave led statewide efforts to protect our most precious natural resource from unwise and excessive development.
New Train Service. As a member of the Transportation Agency of Monterey County, Rail Policy Committee, Dave led efforts to bring train service to Monterey County. Dave's efforts resulted in funding to bring new rail service to Coast communities.
Water Supply. As a member of the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District, Dave has a long time commitment to improve the delivery of water and identify a viable solution to our long-term water needs.
Tourism. As a member of the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Dave continues to lead efforts to promote
Fiscal Responsibility.Worked to balance the County’s budget despite significant state cutbacks. Dave also chaired the management team that took Natividad Hospital from millions in debt to a surplus.
Addressing The Unique Needs of The Community. In response to the California wildfires, Dave worked to create the Monterey County Community Wildfire Protection Plan that will help with fuel modifications in our unincorporated areas. Additionally, he helped implement new ambulance contracts which preserved ambulance services to Big Sur and ensured faster response times to other farther reaching communities.
